A wedding suit accompanies the ceremony, photographs, dinner and dancing. The choice therefore begins with the whole day. At Atelier Emil Hristov, we would develop the look around the groom and the way he carries himself.

Venue and time set the direction

A daytime garden ceremony and an evening reception indoors suggest different moods. For a daytime wedding, we would explore softer colours and more relaxed combinations. For evening, deeper tones and a clearer contrast between suit and shirt. These are styling suggestions that can be adapted to the occasion.

An explicit dress code is the first reference point. A dinner suit is an option for an appropriate evening setting. We explore the distinction in our Black Tie article .

Choose a silhouette that feels like you

A photograph of another person can convey a mood; your own figure determines the proportions. We would discuss the shoulder line, jacket length, trouser rise and leg width as related decisions. Contemporary tailoring can take several forms.

At the fitting, sit down, take a few steps and bend your arms. A wedding suit needs to work in movement throughout the day. Discuss any pulling or restriction so it can be assessed.

Two pieces or three

We would suggest a waistcoat for a client who likes a more layered look that retains its character when the jacket is removed. It should be coordinated with the trouser waist and jacket length. A two-piece suit can offer a cleaner alternative.

Consider the temperature, schedule and how you usually feel in formal clothing when deciding on a waistcoat.

Colour in relation to the setting

We suggest coordinating with your partner and surroundings through a shared degree of formality or a discreet colour detail. The suit and accessories can complement the flowers and decoration in different ways.

View the cloth alongside the chosen shirt and, where possible, in daylight. Our separate article on choosing cloth explores this in more detail.

Choose shoes and shirt before the final fitting

The shoes you plan to wear help determine trouser length and drape. The shirt matters too: its collar and visible cuff contribute to the result. Try the shoes in advance so you are familiar with their fit before the wedding day.

We would keep accessories considered. Tie, pocket square, boutonnière and cufflinks can work together through a carefully chosen degree of contrast.

Consider the suit after the wedding

If you would like to wear it again, mention this when choosing the cloth and design. We would discuss colours and details that will also suit future business or celebratory occasions. A suit made specifically for one day is another considered choice.
